How can I make copies from a chip?

It is easy to make a copy from an existing chip. You will only need a programmer which must support the chip, the chip to be copied and a second chip from the same type. If the chip have a special package type (non DIP/DIL), you will need an adapter also.

With the programmer you can read out the data from the original chip. After this you can save the data on your pc for later copies or directly program the data into the new chip.

Please note that special microcontrollers and PLD chips have a read protection. If the manufacturer sets this read protection, you can't read them out and therefore you can't make copies from them. Memory chips like Eproms, EEproms and Flash doesn't have such a read protection.
